When a monitor starts up or gets restarted and shows a black screen, the first reflex is to suspect the power supply or even the Barco DI Monitors to be defective.

This assumption could potentially be correct but we highly encourage to verify the following point, first:

Q: Has the monitor been put on 'Standby' or 'Softoff' before it got powered OFF?

Main Difference between Standby and SoftOff:

  • When a Barco DI Monitor is in Standby, it can be waken-up via the mouse or any keyboard action.
  • When a Barco DI Monitor is in Softoff, the display has been shutdown via the JogDial Button or OSD Soft button, and can only be waken-up pressing the JogDial or OSD Soft button again.

Explanation:

  • It is normal behavior for a monitor to remain in the power mode it was before a power interruption occurred.
  • This behavior isn't caused by a monitor related hardware problem.
  • Contrariwise, the fact that the Barco Monitor doesn't show any image if it has been put in Standby before the power interruption (Monitor Turned OFF, Power outage, etc...) prevents the Barco Display from involuntary image retention problems.

In the User Guide of a Barco DI Display Models, the following information is mentioned:

Solution:

Driver
If the Barco DI Monitor is put in power saving mode using the JogDial button or the OSD Softkey interface, it is in Softoff mode. It has to be taken out of Softoff by pushing the same button again in order to show a video signal and be recognized in Windows again. A power cycle of the Monitor will not take the monitor out of Softoff.

Several DPMS modes are available in Barco DI Monitors:

  1. Standby
    • The display can wake up via mouse or keyboard
    • LED flashes slowly orange
    • The backlight is ON but at minimum luminance
  2. Suspended mode
    • LED flashes rapidly
    • Backlight is OFF
    • All electronic components remain powered
  3. Hibernate
    • The display can wake up via mouse or keyboard
    • LED is permanent orange, with no flashing
    • Backlight is OFF
    • Main electronic components aren't powered anymore
  4. Soft-Off
    • The display is shutdown using the OSD softkeys of the front panel
    • LED is permanent orange, with no flashing
    • Backlight is OFF
    • inputs are deactivated
    • The display can wake up using the JogDial/OSD Softkeys again
